nono I don't get low pay, I said I refuse to go underpaid.
I make as much or more than my counterparts with BA's. Except I don't have $600 student loans to pay off each month.
I cant really move up without a masters but as far as BAs are concerned I have the work ethic and experience to sell myself to any company looking for someone with a BA.
I'm still slowly working away at my degree just to say I did it. and I would recommend people go for their BA's but for me someone who does not do well with school working is a far better option.

My moms dad started the company I work for, my dad is VP of administration, and my family has been in this industry for 50 years.
I don't need education to work in this industry, I just need experience.
Most of the guys working here have been around for 30-35 years. I'm the youngest by 13 years in the office.
Working my way up just fine. I only worked in the warehouse for two years, then I was promoted to sales. This was decided by a managerial vote for who has the best work habits and product knowledge.

Oh, and before you say "it's a family business, anyone up that high just climbs the ladder freely". Don't think so, my dad had to work for 20 years to get to the position he is in(he's been working here 38 years now), and every other family member of every other employee that was hired has since been fired. They didn't have the skillz it takes to work here, even with working long hours.

As for the overtime, well it's a choice. You want to move up gradually that's fine. I just chose to move up at a faster pace by setting myself apart from everyone else who does that and it pays off

its education or working yourself like slave, my dad went to college in mexico, so his degree isnt valid here, he ran his own trucking company for 20 years when the trucking industry took a **** my dad sold everything he had and got a job in the motion picture industry in the transportation industry hes only been there for 5 years or so but thanks to his experience and and working hard hes above all the transportation department in whichever production hes working on and its difficult to get to positions like that because its a union job and unions have that bullshit seniority rule rather than who works harder and or contributes most to the growth

Well that's great, but if you read what I wrote you will see I didn't state you absolutely had to have a degree, other options were available depending on what you want to do and how you go about it.

I get 2X the work done of other people in 1/2 the time, so I don't need to do overtime to get stuff done. I am set apart just by my personality and product knowledge versus the amount of time I've been here.
Worked here for a total of 5 years BTW.
Avg time in warehouse before moving into office: 10-15years
Lowest time before me: 8 years
Also, since everybody has been working here for 25-35 years, the wave will be retiring soon. I'm sure I'll be management, or some other higher position, before long.
I'm sure the try-hard tactic works for you, though. I got really lucky with this job opportunity. A lot of people TRY to work here and fit in, but it just doesn't work out for everybody in a small business environment.

totally agree tubing no reason to kill yourself, its something my dad tells me it feal so great just clocking out and not having stress and worries on your mind, rather than when he was stressed 24/7 never could clock out, his drivers calling broken down at 3am 3,000 milles away just too much pressure

It depends on your job type. Sales/marketing is completely different from engineering.
Overtime is considered when **** hits the fan and a part needs a solution or new design ASAP when it exists in the field, meaning a customer owns one of the machines. You don't get scenarios like that in sales. If you sat on your *** or worked the typical 8 hour day expecting it go well, better look for another job. Pushing beyond a few hours after work to get it done for a certain date when matters go from bad to worst, makes it look even better for not just you, but also the company in the eyes of the customer.
Have to think about the company your representing, not your own *** when you're working for them. Think of it like the Rx8 issues. Look at the clutch fiasco and other issues with the car. That wouldn't slide here, we'd be called to get a solution designed and done ASAP and implement it into the dealer's hand to upgrade the customer's car to keep them around and show we're committed to them.

long hours is different than running your own company though gregs im just saying my dad works 16-20 hours a day yet when he clocks out doesnt have to worry about everyrthing just goes home and rests like a normal person

Taxes only take out the typical percentage from it, while you're stuck with the majority of it, but I was joking nonetheless..

I just think its funny. "oh im gonna go get my bachelors and get a job!!!" No you aren't becuase there is no job.
Now all these kids have a Ferrari's worth of debt no job and are back living in their moms basement.
Unless they continue on and get a masters then it opens it up a little bit. but the economy and job market are tanking regardless of what you do to better yourself your still screwed.
