Hey everyone question, my mpg keeps dropping... dramatically, i used Fuelly.com and its been dropping alot recently and ive been watching how i drive normally shifting around 4-5k and sometimes 3.5 if im actually watching the gauges. I redline once every couple days but not a bumch of speeding, i cruise control alot. Right now after my fill up today fuelly says 15.9mpg...
My 8 is getting close to 79k miles (bought it at 74k).
What do you guys recommend i check? Im sure i need some maintenence and i do have some money to spend

if you suspect a bad cat gut that sucker ASAP. You do not want happening to you what happened to RIWWP, who suspects that the bad cat resulted in his blown engine

Apple: The Rev is right, you should look into the last time those items were replaced. If they've been in there for quite a while, that could easily be the cause of your poor mpg.
15.9 is pretty low. I've graphed out my last 50,000 miles on an excel sheet and my average is still over 17 despite the fact that I drive my car like I stole it.

Although if it was a bad cat my suspicion is that Appo would be complaining about low fuel mileage AND loss of power
really though ~16 mpg isn't too uncommon

no, don't gut it. It is most likely still under Federal Emissions warranty so get it replaced at the dealership.
Even if you plan on replacing it later, your best move is to have a new one on the car since they are VERY expensive units and you'll need one to pass your smog test.
Easy way to know if your CAT is busted is to jack the car up, put jack stands in, loosen the 3 bolts that connect the cat to the exhaust manifold, and take a peak inside. If you see loose pieces, it's broken. If not, you're probably still good.

Rev: did I ever show you pics of my broken RP high flow cat?
No loss of power at all, but it was completely busted.

Nope jedi , does the supercat have 2 screens? iirc the reason our stock cats steal power is that one of the screens will remain intact and just collect the honeycomb **** and prevent the air from escaping
Like when Michael's supercat blew at the Dyno Day he just sent his cat flying out the back, the OEM will keep it all in

hmm, interesting. I'll have to look inside my OEM cat to see how the design is different from the RP.
off to my photobucket I go. (I THINK I have pics in there)

No i dont really feel a loss of power anywhere, but my 8 has alot of miles and i have NOOO idea when they were last changed or anything like that. and i do sometimes have a few second delay on the car starting as well.

this is just sort of what I've deduced and concluded from reading various posts here and there ![Dunno](https://www.rx8club.com/images/smilies/dunno.gif)
I do agree with your point it would be ideal to NOT gut the cat - better to get a new cat and/or a midpipe. You can run a midpipe on stock catback for pretty cheap and it won't attract attention due to noise
