SoCal RX Club Annual Beach BBQ
So-Cal RX Club: Annual Beach BBQ
Type: General Meeting
When: 8/20/2005 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Where: Bolsa Chica State Beach
Huntington Beach, CA
Contact: Jeremy.Romero@socalrxclub.org
It's that time of the year again. The yearly So-Cal RX's beach BBQ is upon us. We will be meeting at Bolsa Chica State Beach on the L.A. / Orange County border on Saturday August 20th. Come out and join us at this yearly event that gives everyone in the club a chance to show off their Rotary's, and meet and greet each other. This is a great chance to see what other club members have been up to since the last meet, and find up what's up for SS-8.
We would like to get a head count of those planning to show up, to make sure we have enough food and drink. Please add your name to this thread to get on the attendee list, thanks.
We will be asking for a small donation of $5.00 per person to cover food cost
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Notes:
Bolsa Chica Web Site
We will be at the northern most parking lot on Pacific Coast Highway, at the Warner Ave. side of the beach.
It's a little tricky at first, because when you get to the Pacific Coast and Warner intersection, it looks like there is an entrance right there, but it's actually only an exit. From Warner, you need to make a left onto PCH (south) and go down approximately a 1/2 mile or so, to the first beach entrance on the right. Once in the parking lot, you will basically be backtracking on the other side (beach side) of the fence to the northern most parking lot.

I'm interested in going. Couple of questions. Did you pull a permit with the Orange County Parks and Rec department, or at least notified them of the event? Just wondering if we will have reserved parking spaces since beach parking is a premium at this point in the year. 5 bucks covers food...but how much is parking...been a while since I've been to the beach .

Ask and you shall receive!!
No, we did not pull any permits. We have held our Annual Beach BBQ there for the past 6 years IIRC and we never need to pull any permits. Parking is a first come first served basis. The early birds will be there around 1030 or so to help set up, feel free to get there early to park your car, help out, or take a walk on the beach. Pleas bring your own chairs if you plan on sitting down. We're all bringing our own seats.
Parking last year was $10/vehicle, feel free to carpool if finances aren't up to par. Yes, we will be asking for a general donation of 5/head to fund this BBQ. It's a GRRRRRRREAT DEAL!!

wow, parking has gone up since the last time I remember, and too bad we can't section off some parking so we don't have to search the entire north parking lot to check other 8's out. I've put it on my calendar and expect to come...but probably will only bring one 8 this time since it sounds like parking will be scattered, at best...and the fees are getting rediculous in that neck of the woods.
...as well as the additional fees that come in driving a modified vehicle through Huntington...the "fix-it" ticket capital of the world.
Note to everyone not driving with a front plate. I would give you an 85% chance of being pulled over for no plates....so either attach them prior to your drive, or at least carry it with you so you can attach it if the officer is nice and allows you to without giving you a citation...but then again, if you have tinted windows, don't worry, because you will get pulled over.

Kwescott.. you got a ticket at the last Huntington meet? For no front plate? Tint? Hope it wasn't a CHP guy, because those tickets are a hassle.
I'm 99% sure I will make it to the BBQ... so count me in.
Btw, any Pix from last year's BBQ to entice others to show up?

Here are pics from last year... parking wasn't/hasn't been an issue... we always parked along the back row... so most of the spaces are empty. No real issues... Just show up at a half way decent hour.

Nah, no fix it tix at the Beach... not in that area. The cops are too busy doing their REAL job and not giving out gay no-front ticket tickets. Besides, they would prolly want to chit chat about our cars before siting us.

no show?
No show? It seems there have been very little posting form other members about the event. So what is the head count so far? Are we going to have a good turnout. I think I am still planning on going but this is a very busy weekend.

We have a lot of participation from the 7Forum, not much TALK here huh boys and gurls?? = ) We have about 65 people SIGNED up, so it's looking pretty good.
Weather?
Weather: morning 10am 64° F
2 pm 74°F

It'll be nice and cool, maybe bring a long sleeve just in case, it's on the beach.

I'm definately going. Dont know whether Snowfl8k will drive her car or whether we will come together in mine. It all depends on whether we want to pay double for driving both cars down (gas/parking). But we definately will be there.

I sent my confirmation to Jeremy... seeya all there. I'll bring some cash for some Andy Rotary goodies if I see something I don't already have
Ok so who are the other 8s showing up... better represent!
Sign up below for the 8 people... and remember to e-mail Jeremy for RSVP, otherwise we will run out of food if too many non-sign up people show up.
