Unhappy Tire debris smashes my autobahn front

So today I was driving on the 57S on my way to Nutwood Ave, I'm merging right trying to get into the right lane and watching the gaps (since people aren't slowing down to let me in), and as I get into one of the far right lanes I notice that there are large pieces of big rig truck tire debris strewn across the freeway. All the other lanes were likewise covered by debris but in my lane was the biggest piece. I mulled it over in my head for half a second and decided that rather than swerve out of my lane and into another car i would take on the debris right in the middle and hope for the best. I eventually got off the freeway, got into the CSUF parking lot and ran out to check my front bumper. There's a huge gash on the top part of my bumper as well tears on the reinforcements at the bottom. The hybrid fiberglass material that they used is showing through at all gashes, so it's not just a paint thing. I mean, it doesn't look that bad from far away, but the damages are going to eat away at me for a while until they're gone every time I drive my car.

My question for the rest of you is: does anyone know if insurance covers damages incurred by tire debris on the freeway? Is my $1000 deductible associated with the repairs, or is there a separate deductible similar to the windshield deductible (when rocks break your window on the freeway). I'll post pictures I guess later, but if anybody has any productive advice, I would very much appreciate it.

Your collision insurance covers this; sorry, it's 1K deductible time :-(

This is the question the Insurance Company will ask."Was it on the road?" If you say yes then it's collision coverage. Your fault for not avoiding it. Big deductible.
If you say "No it was flying through the air and hit the front of my car" Then it turns into "Comprehensive coverage" much less deductible.
So figure out what your going to say to the Insurance company.

that sucks... i know my insurance covers that type of damage, but I don't know what happens if the type of damage happens again.

and seriously regarding the damage to awesome cars. my mom's 540i was similarly mauled (my damage was nowhere near hers tho... her car was "totaled")

So... I need to get an estimate, anybody know of a decent bodyshop that works with body kits? kinda like Backyard Creations?

This tire chunk came right at you and you had no choice but to run over it as there was a biker on one side of you, and a minivan full of children on the other side, doing anything else would have cause a far more serious accident.

yup yup.

I'm sorry, but I believe your 1000 buck deductable covers everything.

Even if you woke up in the morning and somebody threw a kitchen sink in the windshield you still have to pay 1000 bucks first.

Unless you have a good insurance company that offers multiple deductions for differnet type of coverages and you made those choices.

My nephew does cars for the Sema show.

He is a painter and usually doesn't do body work but his body man does.

PM me and I will give you his number.

They may be able to re-fiber glass it, sand it paint sand paint sand finished.

tire debris took out my MS bumper as well...actually, it was several tire bits on a couple of different drives. It seemed that my RX8 was drawn to tire bits.

Funny thing now is, I own a Mazda 3 as a daily driver and could care less what hits it. I guess there is just no pride in ownership for me anymore, with a crappy daily commuter.

Jun lost his oem front bumper to a tire too. then, he got the mazdaspeed front bumper, and that lasted all but a few weeks. curb 1. ms bumper 0.

with this car tho, i really think that it's not possible to drive it hard (canyon, track, road) and also keep it in mint condition. the paint is soft, and the car is low on the ground. it's going to take a beating unless u never drive it and just look at it in the garage. but what fun is that?

we pick our poison, i guess... for as little as i drive the car, i still have more than enough battle scars to show for it...
