Unhappy Transmission Oil Leaking... HELP!?

Well, my fiance noticed that my car was leaking as I was pulling into my parking space tonight. I don't know if it was doing this at Rotorfest today... but either way, it's happening. I did the transmisson oil swap at my parents house in LA using my Dad's tools (and ramps and pump), so needless to say, I'm in a rut.

Anybody willing to help me tomorrow? I'm planning to buy the tools nonetheless... but I really don't want to have to pay $125 for the dealer to fix my mistake. :/

Dude that sucks. So you took you car to the track? what did you put in your transmission? Can you see where the leak is coming from?

Nope, didn't take it to the track... just went to the meet yesterday... I put Royal Purple in it... but I think I didn't tighten the drain plug enough (either that or a bad washer), and it's coming back to bite me in the ***.

Meh, oh well. I'll probably bring it to the dealer tomorrow... too much hassle for me to do it on my own all over again. o_o;

If my engine fails and im still within the warranty period, i dont get a replacement engine, i have to pay for it. If my tranny fails, which it did because of loose pressure plate bolts on the vehicle that mazda refuses to acknowledge. Somehow, loose pressure plate bolts, and a damaged transmission, turned into abuse over 100 MPH which was fictional to begin with. Ill explain how this all took place.

1st problem: I was getting near the offramp to my dealership when i downshifted into 4th gear. This is when my problems started, I could not get out of 4th gear. Period. I was stuck in 4th gear, i had to force the shifter out in order to get moving again. I drove it to the dealer with a very stiff clutch and a very stiff shifter. They returned it to me the next day, good as new. They claim to not have done anything to it and there was nothing wrong with it to begin with. OK, i guess.

2nd problem: hard to shift 1-2, throwout bearing made very odd noises. Too squeeky to be normal. It turns out the pressure plate was actually loose, and the bolts had backed out. This damaged the pressure plate, the clutch, the flywheel and the throw out bearing. This was covered under warranty after they told me it was abused and wouldnt be covered. I had to argue with them that loose pressure plate bolts, are a defect in the car, not an artifact of abuse.

3rd problem: Got the car back, and i experienced OK driving for a little bit, take all the shifts easy, not hard. Problem occured at higher RPMS, took about a month to come back, but the grinding came back at 6k-8k RPMS of granny shifting. Took it back in, and i was informed that the shift forks were going to be replaced because they were bent. They replaced this per TSB.

4th problem: After getting car back from problem 3, immediately experienced grinding between 4-6k RPMS from 1-2 shift. Called service to let them know what happenned. Car went back into shop a week later, replaced all shift forks, replaced gears 1-2-3-4 and replaced synchros 1-2-3. Got the car back. Drove it home gently, all seemed well [i shifted into 2nd gear 3 times that whole trip] Woke up next morning to go to work, drove it and had grinding issue again, anything over 4500 RPMS to be exact.

5th problem: No more than 1 week after getting car back. I took it back in to address grinding again. I was informed that my warranty is void due to abuse. MNAO found a post of me on rx8club claiming to have exceeded 100 miles per hour.

There you have it, theres my story. Any mazda execs wanna discuss this with me? You should already know who i am. Call me.

For the record, my car is an 08/2003 Build. If you have issues with your 07, 08, or 09 of 2003 build car, now is your time to speak up. I know im not the only one.
See red part.

Maybe that's for the full transmission flush... I'm going to ask tomorrow.

Did you reuse the existing crush washer or did you purchase a new one? Also what was the ft. lb. setting you used on your torque wrench when you tightened the drain bolt?

hmmi find that when peopel do there own il/tranny fill ups adn come ito my dealership to have us check a leak..it isn't under torquing that is the problem, but usually crossthreading of teh drain plug. hopefully that isnt the case. and i believe our washers are a type of bronze (or similer soft metal)...you can reuse them ...i've done my trans fluid 3 times and i havent changed the washer (it was in good condition)...but not every washer is created equal.

was the washer nicked or warped befor you put the drain plug back?

you've never droped your tranny have you?

hmm one last thing it could be your rear main seal......but i doubt that if you haven't messed with teh tranny itself...those usually don't go bad for a long time...but you never know. how many miles do you have?

hmm after reading my post i didn't mean to sound so doomsday-ish. lol it probable isn't anythign major (knock on wood) adn if you are under warrenty...it shouldn't cost you anything...unless it's obviously somethign that you did to cause it (which i doubt). take it to the dealer if you are under warrenty still they shouldn't charge you anythign to check it out. just go in and say "hey i noticed when i moved my car teh other day that there was oil or some fluid like it under teh car tha wasn't there befor. coudl you guys check it out and see where it's coming from adn what's wrong".....they'll check it out adn let you know..no big deal. adn if it is your fault...woohoo you just got some free diagnostic time.

i hope it's somethign simple good luck...if you were in northern va i'd check out your car at my shop for you...too bad you are on the wrong coast. lol

Yeah, everything's fine now. I think it was the washer. Something's still dripping every now and then, but I'll check it out when I get my exhaust...
