Truck vs. my Mspeed MX-5
Hi Guys -
Sorry to rant but I feel I have to let it out.
So, I go back to my apartment after work and I forgot to bring my garage door opener to get into my complex parking lot. So, I park my car on the street. I went in for only 10 mins just find there's an old rusty Ford Explorer parked EXTREMELY close behind my car. I see the driver of the Ford in his car, on the cell phone. As I look closer at the parking situation, I see that his bumper is on my bumper!! So, I pretty my confronted him about his parking.
He tries to blame me for parking in 2 spots (on the street might I add) because he's observing my parking from the perspective of the car in front of me (a civic). I parked behind another car (a taurus); apparently that car left and a civic parked in that spot but decided to park away from my car, leaving 1/3 a small car space. So, it would appear that I was being a jerk and took 2 spots.
At that moment, there were over 5 BIG parking spots for his truck to park in (and I do mean big spots) but decdes to park into my car. I told the guy that its a matter of principle and respect that you DON'T do these things. When he tried to make accusations about taking two spots, it really triggered my nerve. I didn't lose my cool 100% but I was stunned that he had made a rash assumption. So, after I explained how rational people respect propery, the DMV manual implies parking etiquette, etc. he says what he could do to make it better. Mind you not, he's being overly cocky with me saying what he could do to make me happy. At this point, I called the police to take a report.
So, after the cops arrive, they asses the situation and they realized this guy (to use the words of the cops) was "being a jerk". After explaining what happened and other options this driver could've chose, the cops write up a accident violation against the other driver. On top of that, the driver did not have his license, or registration and didn't have proof of insurance. On top of that, his registration sticker was expired, dated 2004.
My damage was limited to a small scratch and a small gash, nothing to cry over. I had told the other driver and the cops that this was a matter of principle, respect and choice. This driver did not apply any of those while he parked and hit my car.
I left first and I don't know what the guy is giong to do but I do know that we both live in the same complex. Its a large complex but I hope I never forget my garage opener again and see this guys car.
Sorry for the long rant but I had to let it out.

If he parks like that just think how he drives on the road.
He'll have to answer to the judge for that. He'll have his license suspended for six months for lack of insurance.
Keep an eye out for his truck. If he doesn't move he may want revenge for loosing his license.

Its funny how you mention revenge because the cops told both of us that we live close to each other and indirectly stated to us that *IF* something was to happen to either cars (random act of violence) that they'd assume it was the other person. For the most part, it would be the other guy damaging my car since his car is already beaten up, rusty and probably worth less than $2000.
Oh, as an update, his truck is still at the corner, I imagine he wasn't allowed to move his car until he had proper documentation for his vehicle. I figure it would get ticketed since it has expired stickers.

What an ***. I hate people like that; justifying everything even though they know it's wrong. I'm impressed you kept your cool very well Alex. I don't know what horrible things would have happened if you didn't. People like that have nothing to lose you know.

you could always poor some salt on the wounds by calling the city and telling them there has been a disabled vehicle parked in the same location for several days. They may come and tow it...now wouldn't that be funny. Paybacks are....
