Angry ....and on Valentine's day

Stopped at a light in Santa Monica and bam....rear-ended.

So the Mazdaspeed underspoiler, bumper, and JIC Ti exhaust are all scrap. And the best part....the guy who hit me had no license, insurance, or registration. WTF!
My insurance will pay for the repair under my un-insured motorist coverage, but I doubt the MS rear or JIC Ti exhaust will be covered. There goes $2300.

So my questions are:

1) Do insurance companies typically cover aftermarket accessories (my coverage is pretty good but remember its my insurance company paying out)?
2) Anyone know of a good body shop in the LA/Santa Monica area? I though about taking it to Santa Monica Mazda....

It depends. If you don't let your insurance company know, probably not. I just added my custom sound system to my policy. I had to have pictures taken, the invoice sent to the broker, etc. They didn't cover the labor (which was about 1/2 the cost), but they added the system to the policy (for a modest rate increase).

santa monica mazda does not do body work. they send the car out to a guy on robertson down buy the 10 fwy. they do a sorry job finishing up the car. when my got hit three weeks after i bought it thats where i went. i was so happy to get my car back that i did not notice alot of little things. paint runs, paint build up on underside, ans so on. they will do a good job on the body but they suck on the finished look...

Most insurance will cover the aftermarket junk ONLY if you let them know of it, and they may tack on some silly small monthly increase to the premium. My rims and MS stuff was added, verified at the dealership, and all the insurance went up was 3 bucks a month extra.

You spent 2300 to get the parts, you'll pay 500$ deductible to get your car fixed, and then another 2300 bucks to get your parts back. $5100 if I'm adding this right. I know my insurance company continually asks if there are any customizations that I want to have added to the premium. I never have, but after seeing that it was only 3 dollars a month for Outlaw, I may need to check into it when the time comes again to renew.

My 6K approx purchase cost for my stereo (which included labor, not exactly sure from memory what the material cost was) runs me about $5/month extra. Since it's in the trunk, I figure it's toast if I get rearended, which is why I added it.

Get both your cars renewed.. have them take a pic of the rims and kit, and you'll be good. Otherwise they wont cover it. At least not any insurance company in the state of California.

I'm sorry for you Keith AND Erica. But I am not surprised. I've not been around long but with all the hints I've heard....think about it. I'm probably over stepping my bounds here but, Keith, think long and hard about what you really want and IF you really want a life with Erica, you know how to fix it. If she is still talking to you, you still have a chance.

You two are great fun to hang with so I REALLY hope you get back together.

Ouch! Sorry to hear about this. Did you at least call the cops so the guy got put in jail? Driving w/o a license is an instant arrest nowadays- esp if he caused an accident. Don't let these jackasses off the hook so easily.

W/ regards to your car- like what the other guys said... You would've needed to have upgraded your coverage by notifying your insurance of the additional mods you put on. Otherwise, they are not going to pay for the restoration costs of those.

Again, am sorry this happened to you and hope you get it fixed soon. If your car is still driveable, there are 2 body shops in San Gabriel valley area that I would recommend:

(1) Marco's Autobody. (On Las Tunas) They are expensive, but they do things right.
(2) Seidner's Collision. (Across from Alhambra Mazda) Good prices, good work.

Dang, what happened?! Just saw you guys a few weeks ago at Malibu. Was this to pressure you into marriage or something like that? Hmm... Am sorry to hear you guys are having issues... But, then again all women are basically insane. And, as guys, we just try to find one who's insanity we are willing to put up with. <lol> Regardless what happens, hope things work out for the best for the both of you. Two zoom-zoom's are still always better than just one...

there was no reason to call the cops because the guy drove off and never stopped. So I couldn't get any of his/her information. I just know that it was a dark color van. So far the damage is $1,700. (no i'm not patronizing)
