Vanity Plate rejected - no numbers replacing letters??
So I'm the ultimate computer nerd, been online, playing games, forever. So I pretty much identify myself as much by my given name as by my online handle. So for fun, a few of my friends have done their online names on their plates. I always said I would do the same when I had a nice enough car that I would want my name on. The 8 definitely fits the bill =)
That being said, I ordered "SP4ZM" online, and about a month later I get a letter in the mail saying they were refunding my money, as they were unable to process my request due to the fact that you can't replace letters with numbers.
Wtf? I see these all the time...has anyone else had this issue with the CA DMV?

Nope... it's a legitimate rule. It says so right on the order form (along with the rule that says you can only have "69" in your plate if your car is really a 69 model year). Your mistake was telling them that the meaning of the combination SP4ZM meant "Spazm". If you had said the meaning was "Serene People for Zen Meditation" or something equally stupid, they wouldn't have realized that the "4" was being used as an "A" and the plate probably would have been approved.
You could try the combination again with a different meaning, and see what happens; but it's possible the SP4ZM combination has already been flagged and won't be approved. Maybe try inserting a half-space between Z and M if you do try it again.
Good luck!

Hmm...to be honest I don't even remember what I put for the explanation of what it was. I probably was honest, and said something like "Its my online handle." =/ Jerks!
Anyway, maybe I can make up some crazy acronym...serene people for zen mediation sounds pretty damn good to me. Good thinking Aratinga, and thanks!
