If anyone that is in the So Cal area that is interested. Please contact me. And I'll get you set up with my guys from Brake zone. They are located at Van Nuys.

$1400 for calipers, rotars, pads, lines and everything? Is that the regular retail, I remeber trying to get a set for my Civic and it was going to run me $3000. Is this for front and rear, or just the fronts?

From the "Brake 101" thread, written by DaveZ:
The "performance" of a caliper consists of a number of factors, including clamping force (a function of total piston area), caliper stiffness (which translates into pedal firmness and more even pad wear), and ability to withstand multiple heat cycles (function of material used and physical design).

For example, Brembo and StopTech calipers can last many seasons without experiencing a degradation in stiffness, whereas some of the cheaper Wilwood calipers lose much of their rigidity after just a couple of races and are often replaced.

I wonder which Wilwood calipers these are and how you tell the difference.

Here is the exact caliper we are using.

Forged Superlite

The kit is being designed from the ground up specifically for the RX8. In doing so, the kit will be designed to retain the factory master cylinder and ABS without changing the bias and balance of the car. We also use the proper piston diameters in order to achieve an OEM pedal height with increased feel and modulation. I addition to this, the entire kit will drop about 15 pounds of unsprung weight off the front end.
If you need any other specific info or have any other concerns, please let me know.

I had the feeling it was only a front brake kit, well free installation is pretty good. BUT I would harldy call that a freaking sponsorship as the thread title suggested.

As the thread title suggests, it is a "partial" sponsorship. With the installation included, the member saves over $500 with the discount on the parts for 2 hours of down time. Regardless, it looks as though we have already found a car.

Updates on the way...

Are you guys planning on making a rear kit to go with the front, I would be interested in buying a set but a complete set not just a front one.

Our front kits are designed to work with the factory master cylinder without the use of proportioning valves or residual valves. Also, the front kits are designed to work in conjuction with the factory rear set up and will not change the balance of the car.

After saying all that, if the demand for a rear kit is there, of course we will build it

Happy to report that the test fit went well and final install is scheduled for this saturday. We are also doing rear matching rotors and rear stainless lines as well. Will post pics as soon as they are available.

As an added bonus, the front kit clears the stock 18" wheels with NO SPACER. The entire set up is also a lot lighter than the stock counterpart. Once we do the install, I ll weigh everything out too.

As promised, here are some pics. Being the forgetfull one I am, I forgot to take my camera with me to the garage to take detailed install pics. I will take some more pics of each individual piece after the weekend so you can see everything in detail.

We also had a chance to weigh everything as well. Here is that breakdown.

OEM Sport Package rotor: 17 Lbs
Wilwood 13.1" x 1.25" Directionally Vaned 2 piece rotor: 14 Lbs

Thats a difference of 3 Lbs ROTATING MASS!!!!!!!!!!!

OEM Caliper+Bracket+Pads: 17.5 Lbs.
Wilwood Forged 4 Piston+Bracket+Pads: 7.5 Lbs

Difference of 10 pounds. Basically, your losing 13 pounds of unsprung weight and 3 pounds of it being rotating mass. That is a significant amount of weight which in turn helps performance across the board. Everything from straight line performance to handling. Including an increase in steering response and feel.

Any questions?

Here are some updated pics of the kit on an FX 45. The caliper and rotor size are identical so you can get the idea of the size of this massive set up. The wheels on the FX are also 20" Anteras if that helps any.

How much are the rotors?

How much are the pads?

Want to know replacement cost, please.

Great question.

Replacement rotors run you $150 a piece

Replacement pads run you $75 for the complete set.

Keep in mind though, one the greatest advantages to a bigger and more effecient braking system is dissipation of heat. Heat is what degrades brake components. The less heat, the less wear. These will last you a LONG time.

Also, the rotors and pads are available everywhere so you arent tied into one shop for parts. Since Wilwood has been around forever almost every brake manufacturer makes pads for their calipers too.
