sorry, but I am going to hijack your thread...For your inconvenience, I'll let you have the pleasure of driving my car! Oh sorry, I guess you already have an 8.
Second, I want to say that this meet looks like it may be getting stale as no one seems to show up. I for one have not made an effort to attend yet.
I know there are plenty of 8 owners in SF, eastbay, peninsula, and in SJ.
I am calling you out: brothervoodoo, pur nrg, xyntax, ptiemann, izoomzoomi, rxguy, loaded8, rx8past, myself, etc. We need to try to set up a weekly or monthly meet. Or we should try to just get a date on the calendar so everyone can commit to it.
All the 8 owners in So Cal seem to find ways to have meets every few weeks or so. This should be no different with us.
I welcome anyone's feedback here as to how we can get these meets going.
my 8cents...

I'll show up soon. I couldn't make it before coz of my school schedule. Hey, how about adjusting this get-together for a weekend instead? I'm sure some of us have a fair share of not-so-busy weekends.

I admit, I've been lazy to go to Sunnyvale. I know the BMW club meets at McCarthy Ranch on Sundays, every month or so. Perhaps a spot where there other things to do than eat? Plus a bit earlier?

I was just about ready to let the thread die. It seems like people have lost some of the initial enthusiasm for the RX-8. We have been meeting every Tuesday nite since August 26, 2003. We had about 6 or 7 cars several times. About 30 different people have attended. Not too long ago, the SoCal people were envious of our regular meet. It was a good run while it lasted.
One thing to consider about a new meeting place is that many malls do not like groups hanging out in their parking lots. I knew the manager of Round Table, and asked him if it was all right to meet there. A couple of years ago, my cousin and I bought new Audi A4's, and went to a remote parking lot at Vallco to take pix. Within minutes, a security cop drove up and told us to leave, even tho we explained that we were just taking a few pix. So, be forewarned.
Another problem is people saying they will show up, and don't. Also, is everyone aware that some guys are planning to meet at Dave & Busters, while some others are planning to go to CrystalGuard in Mt View on June 12?

my other car club has been going strong since 1996- but instead of a weekly meet, we had planned theme meets- one time for pizza, the next time for autocross, track day at sears point, drive along the coast, mod day, dyno day, etc. we were also the first club of its kind and spanned the entire bay area. it takes a huge amount of work to do this, but we are on meet #50 or so.
there was pretty good enthusiam when the car was new (probe GT), then a lull when it wasnt fresh and spanky, then finally when the prices fell enough there was a resurgence.
one of the key points the founder made was that everyone was welcome, no matter how bad in taste your wing or rims were :D
i would be willing to organize an rx8 meet at an autocross this year. i will even find instructors for novices.

I've been trying to get people together for a while now, but my schedule has not allowed me to do more than some PM's on this board and a few emails.
I'd like to get some ideas from everyone on what we could do as a club. I'm all for an auto-x or track day.
I figure that we should probably get together for a large meet in a month or so. I think a month would be plenty of time to get everyone together and plan a pretty good meet.
I already have Mazda's support for a club so the sooner we for something the better and the more good stuff we can get from the factory
The more ideas on how to best form a club the better because I really don't have a clue

well first I think we need to combine forces, there are several different attempts to meet up going on.... having a club is not a one person job... it could be a lot of work. Perhaps 3-4 people could get together and work together to make this club thing happen, people like mazda bob and some of the others who have set up the drives earlier on would be good resources at a minimum and perhaps they might be willing to work with you to get a club going.
I think there are a lot of good ideas and fun meets planned but to have a club there needs to be some sort of consistency and a lot of dedication and commitment by the club leaders and members as well. I would be willing to help out in any way I could.
Bob, you going to be at Round Table this week?

i myself haven't made much of an effort but i will try my best to make it tomorrow... but I too suggest meets shouldn't be so often, a lot of 8 owners have to drive a long way to meet at sunnyvale so to save gas and create more anticipation it shouldn't be as often. Who is going tomorrow?

My schedule has also been too busy to attend. I think I made only one or two meets in 2004. I even have a busted tail light I haven't had the time to get fixed.
I would be up for some track days and autocross.
