2005 RX8 6 speed won't start or idle hot
For sale 2005 RX8, silver with black interior, 6 speed manual, 100,400 miles. As of a week ago the car won't start or idle when hot. It starts and runs fine for a short while. I'm guessing it will need an engine rebuild or replacement. I have not checked compression.
The front tires have about 90% tread remaining. The right rear tire is practically new, it has about 40 miles on it. The left rear tire is down to the wear bars. Other than the motor, the only thing wrong is the CD player doesn't work. Car has factory sunroof, cold a/c, and everything works (except enging and CD player).
I'm asking $1800. Car is in Anaheim Hills, CA. PM me if any questions.

Not saying it's not compression issues... but have you checked other components to make sure they don't just need replacing?
Could very well be a $5 fix... won't know until you check parts
Otherwise, GLWS

The local Mazda dealer wants 240.00 to do a compression test. I'm thinking there's a 95% chance the problem is low compression due to worn/stuck engine seals, and it'll cost me 240.00 to find out 100%. It's a gamble. I can't think of a $5 part that would fix the problem. It's definitely a conundrum trying to decide what to do with the car. I'm hoping to sell it to someone local who has the time and talent to do the engine repairs himself.

I had similar warm start issues recently. It wasn't my cat and I needed a new battery anyway, so got a new one, but still had same issues. Swapped out all the plugs, wires and coils and back to normal. Warm start issues could definitely be a sign of low compression, but it could have been other things as well. Congrats on the sale though.
