07 TL (Type S is back)
Just passing along the news...did a search, didnt see any threads on this-
the 07 TL will bring back the Type S- it gets 3.5 L v6, and 286 HP, ...still thru the front wheels, but nonetheless intersting. Styling virtually the same, except for refereshed tail lights, and blinkers on the mirrors....also has quad exhaust.
Guess we'll see how it deals with torque steer, but I always liked the TL and almost got one before I saw the 8.

The redesign is expected in 2009. I'm considering getting my wife one next year. I'm not 100% sold on it (it's a perfectly fine car, just a little feminine) as I'd really prefer a used BMW 5 series. Either one beats the hell out of a minivan.

I always thought they looked really good. But I would way rather have a Lexus IS 350. Wow that is sexy, beautiful, and absolutely gorgeous.

so its not super heavy for the power it has.
Don't get me wrong, I like my rx8 better, but to dismiss all FWD cars and just claim heavy without looking at the numbers will leave you with a boring opinion of cars.

The max one should put through the front wheels is I think 150hp. The TL has wayyy too much horsepower going through the fronts.
It's SH-AWD is still no substitute for a true RWD car like the BMW 3 or 5-series in terms of handling. SH-AWD also adds weight to this already obese car.
IMO any car over 3200lbs is overweight. Lighter is better.
Why would one get a TL when you can get a nice 3-series or 5-series or a used E46 M3 for around the same amount of cash?
The only truly cool car that Acura/Honda has ever produced is/was the NSX.

the TL does not have SH AWD. The RL does, and has been critically acllaimed by many (some on this forum) for having excellent handling.
No **** lighter is better, but you're again ruling out a bunch of cars if you limit yourself to 3200 lbs. a 3 series, and 5 series are over that "limit" you set as well, so that doesn't make sense. Plus a 3 series is about as "heavy" as a TL, with less HP. Do your research.
Why would anyone get a TL? cause its about 7G-8G's cheaper than a comparably equipped 3 , about 15-20 cheaper than a 5 series. You can't bring up used, cause used cars are used cars.
and 150HP max to the front wheels? guess you havent driven many FWD cars- specifially the Integra Type R and current Civic si..
to conclude, Im not even a TL fanboi...but to make claims without even knowing much about what you are claiming will get you RINKADINKed for a while, so just be careful.

Woops, you're right the SH-AWD is for the RL. The RL and the TL are just so similar in looks and name that I confuse them sometimes. Someone mentioned the SH-AWD earlier in this thread so I commented on it.
Yes, the 3-series and 5-series are over 3200lbs., which is why I wouldn't buy one. I'm not keen on luxury cars and all the gizmos they come with. But if I were in the market for these types of cars I would definitely buy a 325i over the TL. Sure the 325i is slower, but it handles alot better.
You're right, I havn't driven many good FWD cars, but in general I just do not enjoy the feel of FWD cars. They just don't handle like a good RWD car does.

lighter isnt always better and heavier isnt always worse it comes to handling. performance handling goes far beyond that...
the very light C6 Z06 is catching a lot of criticism in the handling department when compared to heavier cars. its all about how linear and predictable the car feels. Thats why those Very heavey skyline GT-Rs in the past are well known for their handling despite weighing much heavier than the cars they destroy on the tracks. I just think theres a lot more to handling than weight, looking at weight and dismissing cars is ignorant because you would miss out on a lot of sweet cars. Ferrari F430 weighs in at around 3500 lbs for example as does the Porche 911 Turbo.
lightest car isnt always the best handling...

Good point. The Z06 gets criticism for its numb steering and unpredictable behavior on the track. But those things don't have anything to do with weight.
My opinions change when we're talking abuot supercars. The F430 and 911 Turbo are supercars in my book so they don't apply to my "3200lbs" weight limit.
But still, I'd jump for a GT3 over the Turbo or Turbo S any day of the week.
When it comes to a sports car, i.e., RX-8, S2000, and sports sedans, i.e, 3-series, TL, G35, that's when I prefer less than 3200lbs weight. But that's just me.
